Chief Minister Oommen Chandy assured the Latin Catholic community in the State on Sunday that the UDF Government was committed to ensuring justice for all backward communities and claimed credit for the former UDF Government taking action on the Justice Narendran Commission report on job reservations.
Mr. Chandy, who inaugurated the 15th annual meet of the Christian Service Society here on Marine Drive, said that the previous UDF Government launched a special drive to recruit members of backward communities to vacancies that arose on the basis of the Narendran Commission report.
Finance Minister K. M. Mani delivered a special address at the mammoth gathering.
Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs K. V. Thomas; Minister for Water Resources P. J. Joseph; Minister for Excise and Ports K. Babu and Minister for Public Works V. K. Ebrahim Kunju were among those who offered felicitations. Benny Behanan, V. M. Areef, Dominic Presentation and Anwar Sadath, MLAs, P. Rajeev and Charles Diaz, MPs were among those who spoke at the meeting.
Chairman of CSS, Joseph Stanley, addresing the gathering, explained the major principles on which CSS has been working over the last 15 years. Archbishop of Thiruvananthapuram Susai Pakiam; Archbishop of Varappuzha Francis Kallarakkal also spoke.
