Two youths drowned in the Muvattupuzha river near Mannathur on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Rishi Santosh, 21 and Bijin Kumar, 26, fourth year engineering students at the Cochin Institute of Science and Technology. The accident took place around 3.30 p.m. when they ventured into the river along with their friends for taking a bath.
On seeing the youths drowning, their friends raised an alarm and locals rushed to the spot. Soon, the police and the Fire and Rescue Services personnel were called in and a search operation was launched. The bodies were found a couple of hours later.
A case of unnatural death has been registered.
