Two persons were killed and four injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a lorry in front of the Spinning Mill on the National Highway-47 at Kariyilakulangara near Kayamkulam early on Saturday morning.

The two persons who were killed were identified as Renjith (22), of Peyadu, Thiruvananthapuram, and M.M. Thomas alias Mathews (55), of Kannur. The accident occurred around 1.30 a.m. this morning when the Scorpio vehicle carrying the group — returning from Thrissur to Thiruvananthapuram — collided with a lorry returning from Thirunelveli.

Renjith driving the Scorpio, was killed on the spot while Thomas died on the way to hospital. Four other persons in the Scorpio, sustained serious injuries and were shifted to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.

Police suspect the lorry driver, who fled the spot along with the lorry cleaner, could have been driving recklessly. The Kariyilakulangara police have registered a case.
