Two persons have been arrested by the city police on charges of cheating, in separate incidents.
The Tripunithura police arrested a native of Bangalore on charge of duping a jeweller of 130 gm of gold and precious stones worth Rs.3.25 lakh. Saktivel, 44, was arrested from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu where he was hiding. The accused had won the confidence of the jeweller after posing as a goldsmith and made him to hand over the gold and stones.
A police team under Baiju Poulose, Circle Inspector, Thripunithura, tracked the accused to Tamil Nadu and they spent nearly a week at Thenkasi under the guise of courier service personnel before finally narrowing down on the accused.
In another incident, Aravindakshan, 68, also known as Rajan, of Vadakkanchery, was arrested for duping many after impersonating as a High Court employee. The police said the accused used to hire autorickshaws to the High Court and along the way, he would ask the driver to stop by an ATM. He would claim the machine was out of order and take money from the driver on the condition that he would repay at the next counter, only to give the driver the slip.
