One person sustained injuries when a tipper truck slid into the Kochi backwaters at Willingdon Island on Saturday. The incident took place in the wee hours when the truck, which was transporting potash to the BTP jetty, fell into the water.

According to the police, the driver lost control over the vehicle while trying to reverse the vehicle off the banking after unloading the consignment.

On an alert, a fire and rescue team rushed to the spot and and lifted the submerged vehicle using a crane.

The driver of the vehicle, C.P. Jude, 51, has been admitted to a private hospital in the city. The truck, owned by a cargo service company, sustained minor damage in the accident.
