Train passengers protest

September 18, 2010 06:23 pm | Updated 06:23 pm IST - KOCHI:

Hundreds of train passengers organised a demonstration at the Ernakulam Junction railway station on Friday, protesting against the Ernakulam-Kollam passenger train leaving the station an hour after its scheduled departure on Thursday night.

The protest was organised by the All Kerala Railway Users' Association. “The Railway is citing the excuse that the delay occurred due to difficulty in tracing the ‘line-box' of a guard.

Thousands of passengers, many of them women from nearby districts, were stranded at the station and reached home very late because of this. Stern action must be taken against the responsible Railway officials,” said Paul K J Manvettom, the Association president.

Passengers have been on the warpath, demanding prompt running of passenger trains from Ernakulam, especially in the evening.
