To ease the gridlock in the busy Kalamassery junction, especially during peak hours, the traffic police are embarking on plans to regulate traffic between TVS Junction and Premier Junction.
According to the latest proposal, crossing will not be allowed at the two junctions. The old NH area, which includes HMT Junction, will be made one way. Two bus stops will be in place on the NH, one between the church and the metro station and the second before the railway station. The ground stop ahead of Premier Junction stop will be eliminated.
New arrangement
Under the new arrangement, ordinary buses from Ernakulam will have to take a circular route to reach HMT Junction, while those from South Kalamassery will not be permitted to cross TVS Junction but will have to take the NH, reach the church and then turn right to make a U-turn to enter HMT Junction. They can proceed in the Ernakulam direction and enter the old NH and proceed to TVS Junction and take a right turn to proceed to Aluva.
Vehicles from Eloor to Ernakulam will have to take a left turn and enter the underpass below the bridge in front of Container Road and proceed.
The reforms have been introduced in the light of a memorandum submitted by the Development Action Council for Kalamassery to the City Police Commissioner.
