The city police on Thursday evening held a full rehearsal of the security arrangements for the visit of President Pranab Mukherjee to the city on Friday.
Barricades were put in place along the roads the President is expected to take en route to his various official engagements in the city.
Traffic and parking restrictions will be put in place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday from Vathuruthy to Jos Junction, Jos Junction to Elamkulam, Frooty Junction to Kaloor, and Kathrikadavu Junction to Thammanam. The President will take part in a function to pay homage to social reformer Ayyankali at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium here.
The city police said those arriving for the function should avoid travelling along the Thammanam, Kathrikadavu road after 4 p.m.
Those arriving in large vehicles for the meeting via the NH 47 from the north have been asked to take the Container Terminal Road from Kalamassery and park their vehicles on the roadside near Bolghatty junction.
Those coming from Vypeen can park near Chathiath road, Goshree road, and near CMFRI. Smaller vehicles cam be parked at Marine Drive.
Those taking the NH 47 from the southern side or coming from West Kochi should disembark at Vyttila or Palarivattom junctions and park the vehicle along the service roads on the highway stretch between the junctions.
People arriving in vehicles from Idukki, Muvattupuzha, and Kakkanad, should get down at Palarivattom junction and park the vehicles between Palarivattom bypass junction and Edappally.
Parking will not be allowed between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. from Edappally bypass to High Court Road, the main entrance of Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to Karanakodam.
Parking is also forbidden from Naval Base to Pallimukku, Pallimukku to Frooty junction, Frooty junction to Kathrikadavu junction, and Kathrikadavu junction to Karanakodam.
