May 24, 2010 01:05 pm | Updated 01:05 pm IST - KOCHI:

The Kadavanthra Janamaithri Police organised a traffic awareness class here on Sunday as part of its community outreach initiative.

Autorickshaw and taxi-car drivers from within the station's limits attended the traffic awareness class which was led by A. Ananthalal, the Sub-Inspector of Kadavanthra Police. He spoke of the need to drive carefully and to abide by traffic rules, since around 4,000 people get killed in road accidents in Kerala each year and around 40,000 get injured. Accidents can be prevented if each road user is cautious, he said.

The City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham inaugurated the event, following which spectacles were distributed free of cost to 125 people from within the station limits.

The beneficiaries were selected on the basis of an eye camp held earlier.
