Tension prevailed at Kaloor in the city on Saturday after agitated traders confronted revenue authorities who had come to evict them in connection with Kochi metro rail project.

Revenue officials were to evict five shops opposite the St. Antony’s Church at Kaloor.

The situation turned tense after traders protested the move alleging that they have not been paid compensation. The officials left the scene in the face of protest.

The shops concerned are situated on government puramboke and private land. Traders claimed that they were not served advance notice for eviction.

A section of the traders had approached the court against eviction.
