‘Civil engineering holds tremendous scope compared to other branches.'

Anu Vivek wants to take up Civil Engineering at a time when majority of other toppers opt for branches like Electronics and Communication and Mechanical Engineering these days.

Winner of the first rank in the Scheduled Caste category in the engineering entrance results published on Monday, this youngster feels that ‘civil engineering holds tremendous scope compared to other branches'.

A resident of Snehanjali at Pandavath Road in Maradu, Mr. Vivek could not hide his excitement when news broke out in the morning that he had topped the SC category in the engineering entrance examination. His father, C. K. Venu, Deputy Tahsildar at Kanayannur Taluk Office, mother N. Vinodhini, Assistant Development Commissioner at the District Collectorate office in Kakanad, and sister Anjali joined the celebrations at their residence.

A student of Gregorian Public School at Maradu, Mr. Vivek said that there was no special preparation for the entrance examination. He had joined a private entrance coaching centre at Pala.

The youngster said that he was keenly awaiting the results of the entrance test for admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). He would opt for IIT once he clears the exam. But Anish.K, who won the fourth rank in the engineering entrance examination, wants to opt for Mechanical Engineering even though he does not hold any special liking for the stream.

A student of Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Eroor, the youngster was confident of a securing a good position after writing the entrance test. “I could attempt a lot of questions and there was no lack of time,” he said.

Mr. Anish, a resident of Anugraha at Puthenkulangara in Thripunitura, started preparing for the exam from Class XI onwards. Krishnaswamy, his father who is employed at Spices Board, and Chithra, mother, provided him all support and encouragement in achieving this feat. Mr. Anish would prefer joining IIT and is eagerly awaiting the results of the entrance exam.
