Toddy issue: Talks with licencees soon

June 11, 2010 05:03 pm | Updated 05:03 pm IST - KOCHI:

The State government will soon take steps to reopen the closed toddy shops in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts.

The Excise Commissioner will talk directly to the shop licensees to address their grievances. The commissioner, S. Subbiah, will visit Ernakulam district on Monday and hold talks with the licencees.

At the same time, the department will go ahead with its steps to check the sale of spurious toddy which is commonplace across the State. The arrests of toddy shop employees made in connection with the sale of spurious toddy will be reviewed by the government.
