July 27, 2011 02:20 pm | Updated 02:20 pm IST - KOCHI:

A meeting of Thrikkakara council held on Monday passed a resolution to upgrade the primary health centre in division 15 to the status of a taluk hospital.

The council asked the government to permit the use of the land available in the vicinity of the health centre for the purpose.

Manoop P.C, the division councillor who had raised the demand, told The Hindu that the MLA had agreed to press the government on the issue.

The council decided to appoint immediately five workers on daily wages for clearing waste.

This was a stop-gap arrangement till 25 persons were appointed through the employment exchange. As of now, the municipality had only four workers for waste clearance, of which one doubles up as a security guard of the municipal office during night.

The council decided to immediately undertake maintenance works of various roads, which were in a bad shape. Canals in the municipality will also be cleaned on a war footing.
