Three youngsters suffered serious injuries in two separate accidents involving two-wheelers in the city on Tuesday.

The first accident involved a powerful 220-CC motorcycle and a six-wheeler mini lorry which took place in front of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute office near the High Court Junction at 6 a.m.

The lorry was proceeding from the High Court Junction to Vypeen, and the motorcycle from the opposite direction.

According to the West Traffic Police, the motorcyclists were overspeeding and were on the wrong track after overtaking another vehicle when they came head-on with the lorry.

The lorry driver, on spotting the speeding bike, applied sudden brake under the impact of which the lorry turned turtle while the motorcycle was turned into rubble. The rider, Salman, 20, and Vishnu, 19, the pillion-rider, from Malippuram, were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Vishnu, who sustained spinal injury, was immediately shifted to Kottayam Medical College while Salman, who suffered fractures to ribs and leg, was also shifted to the medical college hospital in the evening.

In another accident, a motorcycle collided with a tipper lorry near Kalamassery Medical College. The motorcycle rider, Akhil, 20, a resident of Kalamassery, has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital with serious injuries.

According to hospital sources, he was still not out of danger after having lost a lot of blood besides suffering serious injuries to his thighs, stomach and spleen.
