Four persons, including a juvenile, were arrested in connection with a robbery committed in the city in broad daylight. The incident occurred at the house of Santhosh at Giri Nagar, Kadavanthra, on Sunday.

Santhosh, who runs a shop, was away with his family and his friend Sasikumar’s son Sangeeth was the only person at home when the gang came in. The group was led by Abhijith of Panampilly Nagar, who was a friend of Santhosh’s son.

They came to know about Sasikumar keeping Rs. 20 lakh, which he had withdrawn from a bank at Attingal, with Santhosh and came for that. Abhijith allegedly planned the operation with Praveen Kumar of Maradu and Binu of Palluruthy. Sangeeth was staying at Santhosh’s house to appear for an entrance examination.

While Abhijith engaged Sangeeth in a conversation, the other two came in wearing masks and threw chilli powder on Sangeeth’s face and tied him up. Even though the two searched the house for money, they failed to get it and so made away with a gold chain weighing five sovereigns that Sangeeth was wearing.

Abhijith got admitted to hospital after the incident and wove stories to mislead the police. Praveen was arrested from Maradu and Binu from Palluruthy.

Those arrested were produced before the court and remanded.

The juvenile involved in the case will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday.
