The police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the case of theft at the Narasimha Swamy temple in Aymanam near here with the arrest of three suspects.

Speaking to media persons on Monday evening, Superintendent of Police A. Akbar said that the police had recovered most of the articles, including the ‘Panchaloha' idols that were stolen from the temple. However, some stolen silver articles had been sold by the suspects and had not been recovered yet, he said. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be Rs. 5 lakh.

A special team of the police headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police P.M. Varghese, which was formed following the burglary at the temple on March 16, arrested Manoj (27), Robin (35) and Raveendran (48). A fourth suspect has been absconding since the commencement of the investigation.

According to the police, those arrested have also been accused in connection with 14 thefts that had been committed in other temples in the districts of Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta.

Those arrested were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
