Facebook is not a mere medium to exchange pleasantries or to extol one’s virtues for Alappuzha MLA Thomas Isaac. It is a tool for social intervention and transformation.
His recent posts on Facebook have been compiled in the form of a book titled Facebook Diary , which will be released here by actor Mammootty on April 10.
Dr. Isaac has had occasions to highlight the plight of deprived sections on FB. His campaigns for a clean and green city through his jottings on the virtual book and on processing of organic waste at the point of origin have gained acceptance.
A model
A waste disposal project launched in Alappuzha has gone a long way, inspiring other cities to replicate the model, he says.
Dr. Isaac, a former Finance Minister, got an opportunity to present the model to the international community at the world climate conference in Paris last year. He intervened in many a social issue through his posts. FB played host to activities such as popularising organic farming practices, raising money for a computerisation project for children, and drawing public attention to coir workers’ agitation.
But why a print book? His followers on FB have read the posts, but they are mostly the youth and the e-generation. There are many others who have not gone through them, says the economist-turned-politician.
The royalty from the sale of the book would be contributed to the C.G. Francis memorial palliative care society.
