Travelling is tough business, entrepreneur A.V. Sinil would reckon. He and his pal Biju Vijayan, a freelance photographer and designer, have returned to Kochi after an exhilarating national cross-country on their motorcycle.
The Kochi-based duo had embarked on an astounding 15,600 km-long road trip for creating awareness on organ donation successfully completed their mission on Monday evening.
They left Kochi on May 28 and reached the finishing point in Ladakh on June 6 and returned via Kanyakumari, covering all the 30 states in a span of 44 days and on a budget of Rs. 2 lakh.
During the trip, they got in touch with people who have donated and received organs and people who have agreed to donate organs. “We used flags, banners, caps, helmets and T-shirt to convey the message and got overwhelming response from wherever we went,” said Sinil, a member of the Riders Club in the city.
The riders did not face any major hurdles on the way apart from some bad roads in north India.
Acclimatising to the varying temperatures at different places was a tough task, too. “Since our bodies we not used to extreme cold and hot climates, we had problems to negotiate with the extreme climate conditions in central India. Besides, we had to ride through some of the craziest roads ever in the country like those passing through mud swamps and ice blocks,” Sinil said.
While Sinil rode the entire distance all by himself, his friend was riding pillion, navigating the journey.
The duo’s ambition is to break the Guinness record for the fastest time around the world by doing a round trip on a bike between Kochi and the United Kingdom.
But unlike the other trips this requires a sponsor. “We believe this can be done without too much of a problem. But it requires a sponsor,” they said.
