The district-level launch of The Hindu -Newspaper in Education (NIE) programme, which seeks to inculcate the habit of reading, scholarship and social awareness among school children, was held at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kannankulangara, Thripunithura, on Tuesday.
Role models
S. Sreejith, Inspector General of Police (Ernakulam Range), who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that while it was natural for children to have role models, it was important to emulate the right kind of role model. “Don’t let yourself be influenced by bad elements, drug addicts, criminals and alcoholics. Let achievers be your role models. Let your caring mother, teacher be your role model. It is important because if your role model fails, you fail,” Mr. Sreejith said.
He commended The Hindu School Edition for its dynamic content and impressive packaging. Mr. Sreejith asked the students to better their power of concentration while studying by making it a habit. “It’s easy. If you concentrate on a subject for three hours daily, you become an international expert in it in 10 years,” he said, giving light-hearted examples.
N.V. Balamurali, Deputy Regional General Manager, The Hindu , Kochi, explained the significance of The Hindu -NIE programme.
Dr Leela Ramamoorthy, Principal of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, congratulated The Hindu School Edition on being a value-added source of information for students.
