The Hindu School Edition , a runaway success in hundreds of schools across the country, just expanded its reach in the city with its launch at the Government Higher Secondary School, Elamakkara, helping students of government schools to benefit from the unique edition.

Murali Srinivasan, general manager, Indian Oil Corporation, Kerala, and R. Sudhakar, vice president and head of business development, UAE Exchange, jointly released the newspaper by handing over a copy to T. Latha, principal, at a function organised at the school. The initiative is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of IOC and UAE Exchange.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivasan lauded The Hindu for conceptualising the student edition. He said that as a responsible corporate citizen, IOC believed it was their objective to contribute towards empowering the younger generation through education. Recollecting his student days, Mr. Sudhakar said that the corporate social responsibility initiative would help his company do its part in creating awareness among students about sensitive issues like nature conservation besides helping them stay competitive. “We tied up with The Hindu so that students of government schools can also have the pleasure of reading the respected daily,” he said.

Ms. Latha thanked IOC, UAE Exchange, and The Hindu for bringing in the student edition to her school, which otherwise would not have been able to access it. “Reading the newspaper will help expand your horizons of knowledge and substantially improve the language skills. I hope that this will be a turning point that will help change your lives,” she told her students.
