One of the notable films being screened at the Kochi International Film Festival on Tuesday is the Thai film ‘Home’. And to add to the appeal, the young director Chookiat Sakveerakul and actor Witwisit Hiranyakul are specially flying in to Kochi for this screening, as they are excited by the idea of a new film festival in a new destination.
This is their first trip to India, but they will be in the city for only one day, because of their busy shooting schedules. Mr. Chookiat is busy with his next production while Mr.Witwisit is flying to China for a film-shooting.
‘Home’, one of the biggest ‘hits’ in Thailand this year, was set in the director’s beauteous home-town of Chiangmai in north Thailand. It is the saga of three love stories, combined in one film. The three parts have three different age groups struggling with their love relationships, all of which coalesce at the end.
The first part deals with two young students, the second part with a middle-aged widow (played by Penpak Sirikul, one of the best-known actors of the country), and the last part is about a bride who encounters her former boyfriend. According to Mr. Chookiat, “Unlike my previous works, Home doesn’t question any social problems. It is more of a personal film that pulls together my own memories.” His earlier films included his 2006 movie ‘13 Beloved’, a psychological/horror tale based on a reality show, which went to many festivals, and ‘Love of Siam’, a gay romance between two teenage boys ,which launched the film-career of singer Mr. Witwist.
The film, which is 90-minute-long, will be screened at Savitha theatre at 5.30 p.m.
