The Kochi police have registered a case under the Information Technology Act in connection with the hacking of the official website of the Ernakulam Shiva temple by a group which claimed to be from Pakistan.
Though the temple authorities, through their IT consultants, managed to restore the website to its previous template using a backup, the hackers managed to infiltrate the website again and post pornographic images in its photo gallery.
The website was accessible in its earlier form on Saturday but the hackers seemed to have sneaked in again and put a couple of pornographic images, the police said.
According to a senior officer, the case has been handed over to the Ernakulam Central CI, who would coordinate with the cyber cell for the investigation.
“As of now, we are not sure of who is behind the act but attempts are on to track them down’’, he said.
The website had been allegedly hacked by a group called BlackLeets, claiming to be from Pakistan.
The hackers had left the message “Hacked by Hex” on the web page, besides slogans hailing Pakistan and “free Kashmir” and had links to a Facebook page, “BlackLeets”.
They also claimed that the hacking was a payback to Indian hackers.
