Tear gas used to disperse Youth Congress activists

March 14, 2011 02:46 pm | Updated 02:46 pm IST - KOCHI:

The police fired tear gas shells to disperse the Youth Congress activists who had led a march to the office of Consumerfed in Kadavanthara here on Monday. The activists protesting against the "back door" appointments being made by the Government even as the model code of conduct prevails for the Assembly Elections, were earlier sprayed with a water cannon.

However, when the activists refused to disperse, the police had to use tear gas, said the Sub Inspector at Kadavanthara police station.

The activists had been booked for unauthorised assembly and blocking the road among other charges.
