A team from the Kottayam Medical College will visit the Co-operative Medical College, Kalamassery, on Thursday as part of the assessments to be done for the government take-over of the institution.
The team sent by the Director, Medical Education, will look into the manpower and infrastructural and academic facilities in the college. The team will have a clinical and a non-clinical professor, a paramedical staffer and three members of office staff.
The special officer designated for the government takeover, Junaid Rahman, said that the team would report to the panel formed by the government to complete the takeover procedure. The panel is expected to meet as soon as the Kottayam Medical College team submits its report. The government has empowered the panel to decide and implement the procedures of takeover.
MeetingMeanwhile, a meeting scheduled to be held in Kochi on Saturday to discuss the setting up of a cancer centre is likely to get pushed out of the schedule because of the Prime Minister’s programme in the city. While Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas is optimistic of squeezing in an hour for the meeting, there are others who are not so optimistic about the meeting taking place.
