A 110 kV hybrid substation for power supply to Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) was inaugurated on Monday by Aryadan Mohammed, Minister for Power.

K. Babu, Minister for Ports and Airports, presided over the function.

The Rs. 22 crore unit will be cater to the power requirements of the airport and related establishments for the next two decades, according to a communication issued by the public relations wing of the airport. Power is supplied to the substation from the Kalamassery - Chalakudy Feeder line of the Kerala State Electricity Board.

The Board had erected 11 towers for the purpose and the CIAL has paid Rs.3.5 crore for the work, the communication said.

Jose Thettayil and Anwar Sadath, MLAs, T. M. Manoharan, Chairman, KSEB, V. J. Kurian, Managing Director, CIAL, C. V. Jacob, Director, CIAL, and civic representatives including C. K. Varghese, Mary Varghese and P. Y. Varghese and A. C. K. Nair, airport director, CIAL, spoke at the function, the communication said.
