The name Grey Codes may sound negative. Only, it’s deceptive and misleading.
For, the four computer engineering students of the Government Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, behind the student start-up are outright positive, leaving no grey areas about their future plans.
Having incubated their start-up at Startup Village in 2013, Ajmal, Aswin, Kishan and Balram, have found their calling in coding. The four-some proved their mettle in the very same year, when their project on a mobile application to scan and convert document into text format was shortlisted among the ten best projects out of the 150-odd entries considered at the ‘Innovation for a better tomorrow (ibeto) contest’ held as part of the annual tech fest held at their college last year.
They also left their imprint on that fest by designing its mobile application. The youngsters are now hoping to get their big break by winning the e-commerce application for a modular phone set to be launched in India shortly. However, they found it too premature to elaborate any further. The young coders are also into developing a mobile and web-based application for college automation interlinking all stakeholders thereby streamlining the recording and monitoring of all relevant information. They were also roped in to develop the communication application for the Asia Pacific region of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
“We are also actively into animation and had also developed a game. Yes, we are severely feeling the pressure of academics but are determined to pursue our dreams,” said Ajmal. Despite the shortage of time, the youngsters have managed to ply their trade for clients charging a fee proportionate to the time spend for developing the applications.
Though known for producing successful entrepreneurs, the absence of a proper incubation space at their college has come as a big handicap. Notwithstanding that, these aspiring entrepreneurs are confident of achieving the goals they have set out for themselves.
