Strengthen Centre-State ties, says Shourie

August 21, 2014 09:24 am | Updated 09:24 am IST - KOCHI:

Former Union Minister Arun Shourie has advocated a cooperative approach between States and Centre to take the country forward.

Addressing the Federal Bank Hormis Memorial lecture here on Wednesday, he said Centre would be able to execute reforms only with the cooperation of States.

Even a strong Prime Minister won’t be able to do everything on his own, Mr.Shourie said, and called for strengthening of Centre-State cooperative bodies such as regional councils and National Development Council.

Inter-State sharing of information would do a lot of good, he said.

Mr. Shourie said focus was required on foreign trade agreements.

The beneficiaries should be made aware of the benefits of such pacts.
