State to keep vigil over food supply: CM

September 05, 2016 02:15 am | Updated September 22, 2016 05:11 pm IST - KOCHI:

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Sunday that the government would keep vigil over the food supply in the State and would take action against contaminated food items.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the sale of organic vegetables organised at Rajendra Maidan ahead of the Onam celebrations. He said the campaign against “poisoned” vegetables had created a momentum in the State but more action was needed against the menace.

The Chief Minister said the government would take steps to make Kerala self-sufficient in vegetable production. If the people of Kerala wanted they could produce the vegetables they require, he added.

The Haritha Keralam programme drawn up to clean up the State would also have schemes to sustain agriculture in the State, he said.

CPI(M) district secretary P. Rajeev and John Fernandez, MLA, were among those present.
