Special officer for medical college to step down

September 01, 2014 09:47 am | Updated 09:47 am IST - KOCHI:

The Special Officer for the government takeover of the Kalamassery medical college, M.I. Junaid Rahman, will step down from the post on September 5 in view of the appointment of a full-time principal.

Dr. Rahman, who had joined the medical college under the Cooperative Academy of Professional Education as medical director on April 1, 2013, was appointed the special officer by the government when it decided to integrate the college under the Directorate of Medical Education last December.

Dr. Rahman, who was the superintendent of the District General Hospital and later retired as the District Medical Officer, is credited with the General Hospital successfully bagging quality certification from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers.

In the last one and a half years, Dr. Rahman was able to provide a facelift to the medical college with a number of works, of which a modern casualty block and a burns unit brought in much praise. Renovation of all OPDs with different colour codes and modernisation of diagnostic laboratories were among the works that were taken up.
