A petition was filed on Friday in the Kerala High Court making a fervent plea for a CBI probe into the case relating to the murder of Mithila Mohan in the light of reports that persons connected with the murder were dying in suspicious circumstances.
Mohan, an abkari contractor, was killed at his residence in Palarivattom by unidentified persons on April 6, 2006.
In his petition, M. Manesh, son of Mohan said that the crime branch had arrested Santhosh Kumar, the first accused in the case on April 4, 2013.Three other persons, Pandyan, Mathivanan and Uppali had been arraigned as the second, third and fourth accused.
Police affidavit
The police, in an affidavit, informed the High Court earlier that Pandyan died in an encounter in 2010.
The police said they had tried to collect the material regarding the involvement of the other accused. However, they were yet to be arrested. Santhosh Kumar was released recently by a magistrate court.
The petitioner alleged that the investigation had not got anywhere.He said it was reported in a Malayalam newspaper that after the arrest of Santhosh Kumar, one Ceylon Mohan, who was allegedly the head of a contract killing gang was killed in suspicious circumstances. The deceased, as confessed by the first accused Santhosh Kumar, had a vital role in the killing of Mithila Mohan. The petitioner said many of the criminals who were actively involved in the murder of Mithila Mohan were dying one after another in suspicious circumstances.
The accused were in various parts of the country. The capability of the crime branch was not sufficient to track them. Even after questioning 62 persons, nothing had been established.
The case has inter-State ramifications involving highly influential persons.
Therefore, it was essential that the probe be entrusted to the CBI, the petitioner said.The petition will be taken up for hearing on September 3.
