St. Teresa's College is planning to introduce smart classrooms on the campus besides going in for a major library revamp using the Rs. 1 crore assistance provided by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the ‘colleges with potential for excellence scheme'.
The city college is among 149 institutions in the country identified by the UGC as colleges with potential for excellence.
Elaborating on the plan, Sr. Christabelle, Principal of the college, told The Hindu on Tuesday that the UGC has released Rs. 50 lakh out of the total Rs. 1 crore assistance.
Library revamp
Stating that the smart classrooms to be introduced will have audio-visual presentations and digital equipment that could be used for enhancing the learning process, Sr. Christabelle said they would also be equipped with state-of-the-art computers. The college library, which has a collection of nearly 76,000 books, would soon go in for a revamp, Sr. Christabelle said.
The college management has also plans to revamp its postgraduate research activities using the fund, the Principal said.
Sr. Christabelle said that a detailed action plan will be soon forwarded to the UGC highlighting the programmes to be introduced on the campus, as part of the college with potential for excellence scheme.
An expert committee appointed by the UGC will soon visit the college for an on-the-spot evaluation.
St. Teresa's College has nearly 2,300 students on the campus. It offers eight postgraduate programmes and 15 undergraduate programmes.
