Six persons belonging to New Delhi were arrested by the City Police on Tuesday on charges of cheating many using the cover of campus recruitment.
Prabhat Kumar, Anita Singh, Arun Kumar Sharma, Jaspal Rana, Jayaprakash Dwivedi and Vijayakumar, all from Noida, were accused of cheating B.Tech students of nearly Rs. 25 lakh.
The Palarivattom police said that the accused collected “fees” ranging between Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 50,000 from students in different engineering colleges in Palakkad, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Bhopal, West Bengal and Coimbatore. The accused have been conducting bogus recruitment drives under the names of Six One IT Solutions and A & P Invents Mechanical Limited since March 5.Those who were “selected” in the recruitment drives were asked to report for an interview at the office at Palarivattom and to remit a security deposit up to Rs. 50,000. Students were asked to make the payment before May 20.
However, some of the students became suspicious about the recruiters and on making checks they learnt that these companies were closed down in New Delhi. Following this, nearly 200 complaints were lodged with the Palarivattom police.
Sources in the police said that the accused were arrested just as they were winding up their operations in the State and were all set to leave. Train tickets for New Delhi, reserved for Thursday, were recovered from the accused. The arrest was led by D.S. Suneesh Babu, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam; M.G. Sabu, Circle Inspector, Town North and S. Vijayasankar, sub-inspector, Palarivattom.
Four persons were arrested on different charges by the Town Central Police on Tuesday.A youth was arrested on charge of attempting to steal the mobile phone of a resident of Garden Lodge near the KSRTC bus stand. Arun Joseph, 22, of Irikkoor, Kannur, was spotted on Monday by the manager of the lodge while allegedly trying to steal the mobile phone of the resident, who was resting at the reception area. The accused left the scene when the attempt was spotted and was arrested from near the South Railway station.
In a different incident, three persons from Tamil Nadu were arrested for causing nuisance to the public under inebriation. Asok, 20; Suresh, 26, both of Nagercoil and Leeman, 54, of Chennai, were arrested from the South Railway station road in the morning.They were shouting abuse at passersby and causing disturbances.
