A special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the suspected murder of an elderly couple at Vadakkekkara near North Paravur on Thursday.
The team being led by Aluva deputy superintendent V.K. Sanil Kumar will be assisted by circle inspectors of North Paravur and Vadakkekara and sub-inspectors of Vadakkekara and Puthenvelikkara.
The SIT on Friday took statements from close relatives, friends and neighbours of the victims. Police, it is learned, are looking at the possibility of revenge behind the crime.
Theft is considered a distant possibility as only a gold chain was found missing from the house. Police prognosis is that had that been the case, the valuables would not have been left behind with the occupants of the house dead.
Despite the house being near the national highway, there had been no CCTV footage for the police to fall back on. Investigators are hopeful of someone coming forward with a significant lead.
From the statements collected by the police on Friday, it appears that there are no apparent reasons for anyone to kill the duo. Police feel that they would have to conduct detailed investigations to zero in on the motive.
Jose, 70, and his wife Rosily, 64, were found lying dead inside their house due to head injuries caused using unidentified weapons. The deaths came to light after a few election campaigners who visited the house found the door to the house remaining partly open and spotted the body of Rosily near the flight of stairs leading to the first floor. They informed the neighbours and the relatives residing nearby after which Jose’s body was also found on the first floor.
Jose was a retired engineer who was also engaged in the construction business. The couple’s son had been hiding from the police for about a year. He is wanted in connection with a case of molestation registered at North Paravur police station and a lookout notice has been issued against him.
