Signs film festival in city from today

Filmmaker T.V. Chandran will inaugurate the latest edition of Signs film festival organised by the Federation of Film Societies of India-Kerala at Ernakulam Town Hall at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Directors K.G. George and K.R. Mohan are slated to attend the inaugural alongside Mayor Tony Chammany; festival artistic director C.S. Venkiteswaran; director and actor Geethu Mohandas; and MPs K.V. Thomas and K. Rajeev.

‘Ananthamurthy… Not a Biography… But a hypothesis’ directed by Girish Kasaravalli will be the opening film.

160 films

Nearly 160 films under categories such as national competition for documentaries and short films; artists’ cinema curated by artist and Kochi Biennale Foundation trustee Riyas Komu and a package of documentaries featuring Indian music, musical traditions and musicians will be screened between Town Hall and Children’s Park Auditorium over the next four days.

Civic Chandran will inaugurate artists’ cinema. Filmmaker Madhusree Dutta will deliver the John Abraham Memorial Lecture on contemporary Indian documentary scene and challenges. The festival will pay homage to C.N. Karunakaran, K.K. Chandran and Razak Kottakkal.
