In their bid to keep alive and add currency to the dying art of mural painting, six painters dished up a massive work of mural art over the last six days at a workshop jointly organised by the Corporation of Kochi and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale-2012 at Pallath Raman Hall at Veli in Fort Kochi.
The live demonstration of the traditional art carried out by former students of Sree Sankara University of Sanskrit, Kalady, drew considerable public attention.
Dominic Presentation, MLA, inaugurated the event which was attended by K.J. Sohan, chairman of the Corporation’s town planning standing committee. C.V. Pratheesh, art teacher at Sree Sankara University, led the team comprising T. B. Ramesh, P.C. Sreejith, K.V. Ragesh, A. Adarsh and R. Anoop.
The painting, done on the theme of caste and religious harmony, was done on a 20-ft long and 4-ft wide e-board painted white.
A mix of natural and synthetic colours (yellow, red, blue, green and white as is the custom) was used for the work.
The artists camped here to do the mural, helped the public to know more about the art which is fast fading out. The venue was arranged with this in mind, said the organisers of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. The biggest plus of the event is that the demonstration brought currency to the traditional art, which was largely confined to places of worship.
