Shobayatras mark Sreekrishna Jayanthi

The city streets turned colourful on Wednesday evening as children dressed up as Krishna and Radha marched to the rhythm of chants and beating of drums on the occasion of Sreekrishna Jayanthi.

Hundreds of children participated in shobayatras or processions organised by Balagokulam.

Other characters from Sreekrishna’s legend too found form in various tableaux. At Madhava Pharmacy junction, the shobayatra was inaugurated by M.C. Dileep Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Kalady University.

M.A. Krishna, Balagokulam advisor; P.S. Gopinathan, former High Court judge; and writer Sreekumari Ramachandran inaugurated shobayatras at Ravipuram, Thirumala Devaswom Venkateshwara Temple and Ayyappan kavu.

All the shobayatras in the city converged on Jos Junction and concluded at the Ernakulam Temple ground.

Shobayatras were also held at various places in the district including Aluva Perumpilly temple, Fort Kochi- Mattancherry region, Palluruthy, Eloor Devi Temple, Kizhakambalam, Udayamperoor, Tripunithura, Kalady, Thevakkal, Perumbavur and Muvattupuzha, with Balagokulam and temple committees organising the events.
