Ambalappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate, V. Udayakumar on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of the three accused in the case of collision of the Singapore-flagged ship, m.v.Prabhu Daya with a fishing boat off Chertala coast killing five fishermen on March 1.

The Magistrate on Wednesday postponed to Saturday a decision on the petition of owners of the ship, m.v.Prabhu Daya, Tolani Shipping (Singapore) Pte Ltd through their counsel, filed last week, under section 457 of the CrPC seeking the release of the ship. (CrPC 457 says whenever a seized property is not produced before a court, Magistrate may take a decision to release the property to the owners or put in custody if the owner is not ascertained).

The company counsel had argued in the court on Wednesday that since the ship was in custody, the company was incurring a loss of Rs 8 lakh per day and as of now, the total loss is pegged at over Rs one crore.
