Jilse George was suspended following the death of Shamna Thesneem, a medical student

The Kerala Administrative Tribunal (KAT) on Thursday directed the State government to reinstate Jilse George, who was suspended from the post of Professor of General Medicine, Government Medical College, Kalamassery, following the death of Shamna Thesneem, a second year MBBS student of the college, due to alleged medical negligence.

The order was issued on a petition filed by Dr. Jilse George.

‘Too premature’

The tribunal said it could be seen at least prima facie that the expert committee had not attributed negligence to any of the medical officers involved or other staff members of the hospital.

Various views were recorded, and certain suggestions were made. Therefore, it would be too premature to confirm either way that there had been “default” on the part of the petitioner.

The tribunal, therefore, observed that continued suspension of the petitioner was not necessary.
