The Kochi City police have arrested a seven-member gang, including two women, allegedly involved in a robbery at a private lodge in the city.

The arrested are Indu, 30, of North Paravur; Shyji, 33, of Vaikom; Anto Joseph, 24, of Idukki; Althaff, 22, of Kolla; Vishnu, 28, of Kodungallur; and Arun, 19, and Nithin, 22, of Chendamangalam. According to the police, the accused women had first entered the lodge and after picking an argument with the man at the reception, they called the remaining gang members to the spot.

“The accused barged into the lodge and created a terror situation by wielding arms including metal rods, knives, and tube lights. They even assaulted the receptionist and fled after robbing him of ₹17,000 and his cell phone,” the police said.

On an alert, a police team rushed to the spot, and all the accused were taken into custody after a search operation that lasted over an hour. The accused will be produced before a magistrate.
