A service boat of the State Water Transport Department (SWTD) rammed a stationary ferry at the Perumbalam Island near Poochakal, around 45 km from here and near Cherthala, on Thursday. Six persons sustained minor injuries in the accident.
According to locals, the SWTD Boat No.S.21, which was on its way from the Perumbalam Market to Panavally around 10 a.m., appeared to have lost control and rammed the ferry that was lying idle. Six passengers, who were seated in the front rows of the service boat sustained minor injuries and were shifted to the Arookutty Government Hospital about 10 km from the accident site.
Officials have said that the gear system of the boat developed a snag. The front portion of the boat was damaged in the accident.
