Serum Institute unveils two vaccines

Rotasiil vaccine and Rabishield launched

KOCHI: The Pune-based Serum Institute of India, part of Cyrus Poonawalla Group, has unveiled Rotasiil vaccine and Rabishield, a rabies monoclonal antibody, developed in partnership with Massachusetts Medical School, U.S.

A statement from the company said here that the global launch was held in Mumbai on Saturday and was attended by Michael F. Collins, Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Mark S. Klempner of the Medical School. The statement said that the availability of Rotasiil and Rabishield would help reduce deaths caused by Rotavirus and rabies worldwide.

The Serum Institute sells about 1.3 billion doses a year across 147 countries, the press release said. It claimed that around 65 per cent of the children worldwide had received at least one vaccine made by the Serum Institute.
