The creative works of 14 artists are displayed at Subhash Bose Park.

The sculptures in the Subhash Bose Park will soon be restored to their original charm.

The plans of the Kochi Corporation to revive the sculptures will be supported by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). The CSL will offer ₹20 lakh for the project.

The Centre for Heritage Environment and Development will coordinate the restoration work. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the civic body and the CSL in this regard.

Rajan Chedambath, secretary of the centre, and M.D. Varghese, General Manager (Industrial Relations) of the CSL exchanged the agreement at a function held here on Tuesday. Civic administrators including Mayor Soumini Jain and chairpersons A.B. Sabu and V.K. Minimol were present.

The renovation programme includes improvement of landscape, setting, access and lighting.

The centre plans to implement a major restoration plan for the sculptures in the park, says a communication.

The creative works of 14 eminent artists who participated in the first international symposium of sculptors in 1990 are displayed in the park.

The camp, jointly organised by Kalapeedom and the Kochi Corporation, was coordinated by Hiroshi Mikami, a renowned Japanese sculptor along with T. Kaladharan, the director of Kerala Kalapeedom.

Each sculpture needs a separate restoration plan. While some sculptures have been extremely damaged, some only need to be slightly restored.

Art camp

The revival plan includes organising a mini art camp where artists will restore the sculptures.

A 10-day art camp, with the artists who created the sculptures and others will be held, says the communication.
