A 44-year-old school teacher was found dead with her throat slit in Mulavukad near here on Wednesday.

According to police, Merlin Fernandez, a government school teacher in Alappuzha, was found lying dead in a pool of blood at her house near the Mulavukad service co-operative bank on Wednesday morning. Her husband Johnson D'Silva, a postal department employee, was also found lying on the floor with deep cut on his throat. He was rushed to a private hospital and is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit.

The police arrived at the crime scene on an alert by local residents.

The incident came to light when one of their neighbours found a notice on the mishap, pasted on the door of their house.

Preliminary investigations showed that Johnson suspected his wife of having an extra marital relationship.

“The husband had also left a suicide note, which explained about the issues between the couple’’, officials said. During the attack, the victim sustained injuries all over her body including stabs on her chest and stomach.

The body was sent to Ernakulam General Hospital for autopsy after inquest. A case has been registered under section 302 of IPC.

The couple has a daughter who is studying in Kozhikode.
