Sarfaesi victims to resume stir

July 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:14 am IST - KOCHI:

The 17 Dailit families, alleged to be duped by a loan mafia with the connivance of some bank employees, will resort to a fresh round of agitation demanding the State government to prevent their eviction under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act (Sarfaesi Act).

The committee spearheading the movement will commence the agitation at Vallarpadam Junction on Monday.

A. Vasu, trade union leader and human rights activist, will inaugurate the event, which will be followed by a march to the residence of a person allegedly involved in the scam.

The committee also plans to launch a dharna in front of the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram from the second week of August.

Demands

The main demands of the committee include immediate intervention of the government to stop attachment proceedings, facilitate the return of the land deeds of the affected families and entrust the probe in the loan fraud cases to a single agency.
