Salt Sathyagraha being re-enacted today

May 11, 2010 07:39 pm | Updated 07:39 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Dandi march or the Salt Sathyagraha, a significant event that launched the Civil Disodedience Movement by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930, is being re-enacted on the Kozhikode beach on Wednesday by Gandhians coming together under the banner of the Kerala Sarvodaya Mandalam.

The participants in the programme would gather on the beach in front of the Corporation Office at 4 p.m. and make salt out of sea water as Gandhi did 80 years ago. Later, they would take a pledge to fight for the protection of India's independence.

Gandhians P. Gopinathan Nair, Thayatt Balan, M.P. Mathai, and P.V. Rajagopalan will lead the programme.
