CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said here on Tuesday that the RSS was trying to use communalism to retain power.

In his address at the meeting at Rajendra maidan here against the killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh, Mr. Balakrishnan said that the killing of Mahatma Gandhi was the first terror activity in the country. The second one was the demolition of Babri Masjid while the third such incident was the genocide in Gujarat, he said.

Mr. Balakrishnan alleged that the RSS was trying to spread fear by suppressing democratic values and freedom of expression in the country. M. K. Sanoo, noted critic, presided over the event. Creative works that highlighted the message “We are Gauri” were displayed at the programme venue.
