‘India Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Report 2010,' part of the annual MSMER series, was released by Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India K. C. Chakraborty, said a press release from Institute of Small Enterprises and Development here on Wednesday.
The series of reports have helped generate awareness in the governments, including those in the North East, the press release said.
It said that the latest report discussed the micro, small and medium industries scenario in the context of the changing global context and that an “exceptionally positive role will be played by MSMEs” in the forthcoming 12{+t}{+h} Five Year Plan.
Based on the recommendations of several Chief Ministers at the last National Development Council meeting, the 12{+t}{+h} Plan is likely to take an employment-focussed approach to economic policy. This recommendation implies a new role and opportunity for the MSME sector, said the press release.
The MSME sector has already shown its labour absorption capabilities and resilience in the face of global economic recession. The MSMEs have helped India from more severe effects of the economic slowdown, the report said as it underlined eight critical areas of concern for the sector in the country.
A series of nation-wide dissemination meets on the report have been recently launched with the first such meet being held in Hyderabad, jointly organised by the Department of Industries and Commerce and the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Chuka Kondiah, Director, National Institute of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises inaugurated the programme, said the press release.
