A 700 mm primo pipeline burst on Friday morning, causing the road to cave in at Kathrikadavu.

The water supply line from Thammanam pumps branches out into three directions. It is the line that supplies water to Kaloor and nearby areas that burst, rendering about 15 to 20 per cent of city without water supply for at least 24 hours.

Water supply to Edappally, Elamakkara, SRM Road, Vaduthala, Pachalam, Lisie Hospital area and boundary of Cheranelloor will be affected till Saturday morning.

It will take workers at least 24 hours to repair the broken pipe as the pipes are over 40 years old and the working conditions bad because of the high water table and the monsoon showers, Assistant Executive Engineer of Kerala Water Authority, Kaloor, has said.

The repaired work will be tested before the portion of the old Kathrikadavu-Kaloor road is resurfaced.
