The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has ordered the removal of illegal hoardings erected along the roads and ensure hassle-free travel.

The Commission also directed the authorities to invoke the provisions of the Highway Protection Act for the removal of illegal hoardings.

An order issued by P. Mohanadas, acting Chairman of the Commission, said the boards that were installed across the roads and the ones on the flanks should be removed immediately.

Tahasildars should identify the legal boundaries to identify and remove illegal hoardings, the order said.

The Commission directed the Municipal Secretary of the Aluva Municipality to remove the illegal billboards in its jurisdiction with the support of the police. The revenue, health and engineering wings of the local body should act together for the task, he instructed.

The Commission also ordered that the street-side trade along the metro rail premises and in other parts of the city should be removed. The instructions were issued to the Public Works Department, police and revenue departments on a petition filed by social worker T. Narayanan.
