Relief for Assam Rifles ex-personnel

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - KOCHI:

The Kerala High Court on Friday held that retired Assam Rifle personnel were entitled to benefits of the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme.

Justice A.V. Ramakrishnan Pillai, while allowing a petition filed by Thulasi Nair of Thrissur, a retired Subaidar of Assam Rifles, observed that there was no reasonable justification for denying retired Assam Rifles personnel the benefits of the scheme.

The court observed that Assam Rifles was a combatant force operating alongside the Indian Army. It was the Army Act and Rules which governed the force when they were in operational field. The functions, organisations and duties of the force were similar to that of the Indian Army.
